TIPS TO REDUCE THE ACCUMULATION OF SAND 

  • Does your horse graze on sandy soils ? 
  • Does your horse like to nibble at the ground even if there is not much to eat ? 
  • Is there a sand sediment at the bottom of your horse's water trough ? 
  • Is there sand in your horse's manure ? 

1. feed sand flush daily for 5 days every month

2. FEED PLENTY OF GOOD QUALITY ROUGHAGE SUCH AS OATEN HAY


3. DO NOT FEED DIRECTLY ON THE GROUND 


4. SCHEDULE REGULAR DENTAL CHECK-UPS WITH A VETERINARY DENTIST


5. USE HAYNETS / HAY FEEDERS AND RUBBER MATTING IN FEED AREAS TO MINIMIZE WASTAGE 


6. DO NOT TURN YOUR HORSE OUT ON SPARSE PASTURE AFTER THE FIRST RAINS OF THE SEASON 


7. PROVIDE CLEAN, FRESH DRINKING WATER AT ALL TIMES 


8. FEED A BALANCED RATION, TAILORED TO THE NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF YOUR HORSE 


9. ENSURE ADEQUATE TURNOUT AND EXERCISE 


10. SCHEDULE REGULAR HEALTH CHECKS WITH YOUR VETERINARIAN TO ALLOW FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF ANY PROBLEMS.
